A coupon that only earns on the days you are right
A range accrual note pays an above-market coupon, but only for the days its reference — a rate, a currency, a spread — sits inside an agreed range. Every day outside the range earns nothing. The investor is selling a strip of daily digital options and being paid for them in coupon, which makes the note a short volatility position dressed as a bond. It is the most common way a private client ends up short an option without ever having bought or sold one.

Range accruals are a private banking and insurance staple, sold as yield enhancement to buyers who want income without an explicit derivatives mandate. Dealers run the other side as a short-dated digital book and hedge the skew; the note’s call feature is what lets the issuer keep the funding cheap when the hedge becomes expensive.
In the app, Range Accrual Note carries a five-step lesson, a worked example and a bank of twelve questions drawn differently every sitting.
